Michel the Roommate・ルームメイトのミシェル・米歇尔

2025夏、家の冷蔵庫のそばで「ミシェル」に出会った。黄のボール紙に黒い埃のようにとまり、すぐ走っては止まり、三秒で裏の隙間へ消えた。俊敏さとためらいに惹かれる。家に一匹の蜘蛛――独り暮らしの私にはルームメイトである。この蜘蛛は網を張らないハエトリグモ、学名 Hasarius adansoni。仏の博物学者Michel 　Andasonにちなむ名で、雄は黒、雌は褐。それ以来、私は彼をミシェルと呼ぶ。私がカメラで追ううちに、彼の行動圏は台所から浴室、そして居間の壁へと広がっていった。

蜘蛛の軌跡をたどることで、私は自分の住まいと暮らしをあらためて見直した。もう一層考えると、私と蜘蛛はいかに関わり、どう共に在るのか――互いの目にはどう映るのかという問いが立ち上がった。フォトブックには、人間が蜘蛛をどう研究してきたか、文化における蜘蛛のイメージ、そして蜘蛛の目に映る人間像を入れた。展示では、等倍率の蜘蛛と人間を揃い、異なる種が生きる世界のスケールの差を可視化する。

Summer 2025, I encountered “Michel" near the refrigerator in my home. He perched on a yellow cardboard like a speck of black dust, darting and then freezing, before vanishing into a crevice within three seconds. I found myself captivated by that mix of agility and hesitation. A spider in the house—for someone living alone like me, he is a roommate. This spider is a jumping spider that does not spin webs, scientifically known as Hasarius adansoni. Named after the French naturalist Michel Adanson, the males are black while the females are brown. Since then, I have called him Michel. As I tracked him with my camera, his territory expanded from the kitchen to the bathroom, and eventually across the walls of the living room.

By tracing the spider’s trajectory, I gained a new perspective on my own home and daily life. Taking this reflection a step further, I began to wonder: how do the spider and I relate to one another, and how do we coexist? The question of how we appear in each other’s eyes naturally arose. In this photobook, I have included historical research on how humans have studied spiders, the image of spiders in culture, and the portrait of humanity as seen through a spider’s eyes. In the exhibition, I juxtapose life-sized images of the spider and the human to visualize the vast difference in scale between the worlds inhabited by different species.

2025年夏天，我在家里的冰箱旁遇见了“米歇尔”。它停在黄色的纸板上，像一簇黑色的尘埃，迅疾跑动又戛然而止，三秒钟便消失在背后的缝隙里。我被那种敏捷与迟疑交织的姿态所吸引。家中多了一只蜘蛛——对于独居的我来说，它便是室友。这是一种不结网的跳蛛，学名 Hasarius adansoni（安氏哈沙蛛）。这个名字源于法国博物学家米歇尔·阿丹松（Michel Adanson），雄性呈黑色，雌性呈褐色。从那以后，我便称呼它为“米歇尔”。随着我用相机对他进行追踪，他的活动范围从厨房延伸到了浴室，最后布满了起居室的墙壁。

通过追寻这只蜘蛛的轨迹，我重新审视了自己的居所与生活。进一步思考，我与蜘蛛之间产生了怎样的关联？我们又是如何共处的？——这种“彼此眼中如何映照出对方”的问题油然而生。在摄影集中，我加入了人类研究蜘蛛的历史、文化中的蜘蛛形象，以及蜘蛛眼中所映照出的人类。而在展览中，我将等倍率的蜘蛛与人类并置，试图将不同物种生存世界的尺度差异视觉化。
